What is the difference between a wedding and a renewal of vows?

I have been married for almost 2 years, but deployed to Iraq for most of it. When I get home in the summer, I want to have a nice wedding or SOMETHING to make it official and so families can get together (we got married at the courthouse with no witnesses). We've had some issues in our marriage that has broken our original vows, and now that we've worked them out, we'd decided on this wedding/vow renewal. Is there a difference between the two? Can you set up a renewal the same way as a wedding, or do I have this thing totally backwards or something? (By the way, both of us are agnostic, if that matters)

1. go about setting it up like its your first wedding. When you renew your vows you can use the old ones or write new ones. There really is no difference except renewing your vows means you have to be married to the person. I think it sounds like a wonderful idea, just go about it as though you are doing it for the first time.
2. You can have it as a wedding. I would just renew the same exact vows because you say that the original vows have been broken. I think renewing your vows is a perfect way of saying how much love you guys have for one another and that it's feels just as if it was the first time you were married.
3. There is nothing wrong with doing yall renewal of vows on the same day as you got married. I would say that you and her can a simple but elegant wedding kinda like something that you and her would have planned for yalls first one. There are somethings that you wouldn't really have to worry about some of the things that ivolve the "traditional" wedding. I would say that it is a great idea and to go for it. 4. A marriage (wedding) ceremony is your first initial union performed by a licensed minister, judge, etc. A renewal of vows ceremony is any subsequent ceremony in which you renew the vows you spoke at your initial marriage ceremony. Renewal ceremonies can be as extravagent as marriage ceremonies. Best wishes as you plan your renewal. :-)
